SEAFARERS

MINISTRY

The Mission of the Month for February is The Seafarers Center-Twin Ports Ministry to Seafarers. As their newsletter states, “The Ministry was incorporated in 1969 as an ecumenical ministry to welcome international and North American seafarers to our port and to the services of the center and the port communities. Though seafarers may be far from their congregations, homes and families, they have in us brothers and sisters, trustworthy hosts, and a home away from home.”

Items needed include: knit watch caps, scarves, v-neck vests, ditty bags, men’s work sox (size 10-13) in gray or rag wool (they won’t show the dirt like light colors will), full size soap bars, combs, finger nail clippers, work gloves (inexpensive ones with leather fronts and knit backs, often found at the Dollar Store), current Reader’s Digests & old devotional books. Please place items in the blue bin in the north narthex. They are NOT in need of small size toiletry items. Checks can also be made to Glen Avon Presbyterian Church with Seafarers Ministry in the memo line.

The Seafarers web site also has patterns for knitted items: www.theseafarerscenter.org.
